Full Moon in Aquarius and Intensity: The Astrology of August 9th-14th

This week's Full Moon is potent and spotlights the Saturn in Aquarius story, the Uranus in Taurus story and the Taurus-Scorpio Eclipse story. It is a turning point in the year -- a moment when we are swept up by change and challenged by multiple commitments. Coming off of Tuesday's Venus-Pluto opposition, this is also a moment to examine our closest relationships and to think about the part that we play within them. Is this the kind of relationship that we want to have tomorrow? We are now entering the final phase of the Saturn-Uranus journey and, whether or not this journey has been difficult for you, it has surely been life-shaping as some of the old structures in our lives have broken down, never to be the same again. As you rebuild, do you have a clear picture of who you want to be?

On Thursday, August 11th, leading up to the Full Moon, the Sun in Leo will square Uranus and the North Node in Taurus; the Moon will conjoin Saturn in Aquarius; Mars in Taurus will sextile Neptune in Pisces; and Venus will enter Leo. This is an intense Full Moon! The Sun in Leo invites us to step into our goals, clarify our intentions, retire worn-out expectations, and live passionately. But because the Moon is shining bright in Aquarius, we might feel torn between our personal pursuits and the more practical things that we have to do to build a life with others. We might feel like we are stuck at a crossroads, not yet clear on the best way forward, but the thrust of oncoming traffic is pushing us to choose quickly.

Saturn's proximity to the Full Moon could be a reminder to take care of our mental health, our environment and to implement strategies for better time management (which is also a form of self care!). Over the next few days, try to do a little planning. Make a schedule. Front-load the bigger stuff that you have to do with a little prep. Put your name on that wait list for something you really want but can't have now. Order bulbs for fall planting. Schedule time for relaxation, fresh air and sunshine. And if you are normally a diligent planner, see if you can use this time to strategize for greater flexibility in your day-to-day.

Uranus has been moving through Taurus since 2018/2019. Taurus is a fixed earth sign, so wherever Taurus falls in your chart would be a place to lean on for stability. When Uranus moved in, that stability became less reliable -- more so anytime their were aspects to Uranus (like the Saturn-Uranus squares). If Taurus is in the 7th House of your chart, Scorpio rising, you might have solid and long-lasting relationships. If Taurus is in the 9th house, Virgo rising, you might have faith in your understanding of the world and your ability to expand your horizons. If Taurus is in the 5th house, Capricorn rising, you may have felt comfortable and steady in your creative process, your creations (like children) or the way you seek pleasure. If you have Taurus in the 10th house, Leo rising, this steadiness would have been found through your career or what you do out in the world. For all of us, the Taurus surety that we once had all went out the window when Uranus entered this sign.

Then Saturn moved into Aquarius in December of 2020 and began making a square aspect to Uranus dragging the Aquarius house into the mix. Squares are of the nature of Mars and bring conflict and challenges, but also movement. Uranus brings sudden change and revolution. Saturn is structure, authority, and tradition. Like lightening striking old buildings, Uranus sent bolts of disruption to the steady Saturnian parts of our lives. Sometimes, these structures withstood the jolt, only shifting a little. Sometimes, they caught fire, crumbled and fell. This week, retrograde Saturn in Aquarius begins inching its way closer to a final tangle with Uranus.

Look to where Aquarius sits in your chart for more information about how you experience this transit. If you are Capricorn rising, Aquarius is in your 2nd house of finances and what you value. Therefore, the challenges that you face concerning creativity and pleasure are affected by recent changes to your relationship with money. For Leo rising, we find Aquarius in your 7th house of partnership. The challenges that you face concerning what you do out in the world might be strongly tied to the loss, restructuring or changes in a relationship. For Virgo rising, Aquarius is in the 6th house of bad fortune. You may have had to reshape your beliefs because of a blockages or challenges outside of your control. This may have also been a time when you've had to confront health/mental health issues and create better habits to support you in your day-to-day. If you are a Scorpio rising, Aquarius is in the 4th house of home and family, so how you are in relationship to others may be rooted in changes to your home life: a move, a breakdown of family structure or just a general feeling of being uprooted and adrift. Of course, these Saturn-Uranus transits are all affected by the personal placements in your birth chart -- for example, if you are Leo rising and have your natal Sun in the 7th, this transit could also bring up a crisis of identity or ambition. Or if you are a Leo rising with your natal Moon in the 7th, this transit could awaken challenges around health, environment or mothers. The main thing to remember when the more stable parts of our charts undergo disruptive transits, is to not try to force stability, but rather to build resiliency.

On Sunday, August 14th, the Sun in Leo will oppose Saturn in Aquarius and Mars in Taurus will trine Pluto in Capricorn. We might feel like we are between a rock and a hard place. Tough decisions will need to be made and actions taken might unearth fear and doubt. Constructively, this transit could see us cutting out unhealthy habits, streamlining our objectives and making some necessary commitments. Destructively, the pressures of this transit could tamp down spirits and drain us of energy. We might feel disappointed or alienated and try to put up walls of protection that keep us from shining our light out into the world. Take a day to rest, if you can. Then on the next day, get out of bed and do one little thing that makes your heart sparkle.
