Full Moon in Capricorn: The Astrology of July 11th-17th

I'm vacationing this week with my partner's family at a lake house in Michigan -- the kind of situation that feels particularly ripe for the promises of this Wednesday's Full Moon in Capricorn. Full Moons are always an opportunity to uncover latent emotions and being with family, however beloved, can dig into those depths like nothing else. This Moon, steeped in nostalgia, shines its light onto our deference to the past -- the Capricornian way we enact old patterns and embody old roles without question. How do you feel bound to the past this week? In what ways are you clinging to worn-out ideas of what should be or who you should be?

Also on Wednesday, July 13th, just after the Moon opposes the Sun in Cancer, Venus in Gemini will make a square to Neptune in Pisces and then a trine to Saturn in Aquarius. This succession of aspects may take us from the desire to escape or pleasure-seek to the desire to recalibrate ourselves by way of our relationships. Similarly, it may be that some disillusionment with a relationship causes us to reconstruct our perception of it. This work happens adjacent to the heaviness of the Full Moon energy, meaning that it happens in another part of your life. So what comes up under this Moon might push you to seek outside solace. This may not be the time to take on the greater system but rather to support alternative mechanisms for which we can show up and live our values. Then, as Mercury in Cancer sextiles Uranus in Taurus, we are given the opportunity to express these feelings in a new way. Hopefully a good way!

On Saturday, July 16th at 3:37pm est, Mercury will conjoin the Sun in Cancer. This special aspect, known as Cazimi, occurs when a planet moves into the heart of the Sun. It is a point of planetary reboot, when the topics associated with the planet are given over to a new cycle. Wherever Cancer falls in your chart indicates where you are right now using communication to nurture growth. This new cycle will be in support of that journey. (If it helps, you can think of Cazimi as an ace card in Tarot).

You can look to where Cancer falls in your birth chart for an indication of how this is showing up for you. If Cancer is in the 10th house (Libra rising) the reboot is in the way you engage others in career or public persona. If Cancer falls in your 5th house (Pisces rising) the growth might be in how you parent or express yourself creatively. If Cancer is in your 12th (Leo rising), you might get into a new groove that helps you deal with a personal struggle or an isolating situation. This Cazimi will trine Neptune, so pay attention to fleeting, but potentially useful messages that come to you via dreams, meditation or even gut feelings during the transit.

On Sunday, July 17th, Venus will enter Cancer and shift her focus from networking in the social realm to the quieter comforts of home and family. After the heavy lifting we've done this week regarding our obligations to the past, it makes sense that we would want to put some time into appreciating the present. Use this energy as an opportunity to bring some tenderness to the familiar. Tack some artwork onto that bare wall that you've been meaning to decorate. Restore a shabby heirloom. Roast marshmallows over a bonfire with your sweetheart. Visit with your sibling over cups of delicious coffee. Mercury in Cancer will trine Neptune and then, shortly after, the Sun in Cancer will trine Neptune. This could be a day when things are not all they seem, so keep your attentions light and dreamy.
