Full Moon in Pisces & Mercury Retrograde

Since the New Moon, we've been swimming through the currents that late July and August have put into motion. Some events may have swelled and receded -- they are not gone exactly, just maybe not quite as deep. Others are still steadily swirling around us. How do we compose ourselves when there is no solid ground for us to gain hold? This Full Moon in Pisces asks us to feel our way into those currents rather struggle against them.

Venus entered Virgo on Monday, September 5th. Detailed, discerning Venus. Picky Venus. The objective is to give our thoughts form and to shape our day-to-day with practical pleasures: studying, crafting, refining, and even rejecting when it comes to things that are not worthwhile. The danger of this energy is the desire to perfect oneself, one's work, or one's environment to the point of destructiveness -- to criticize something into impotence or irritation. In doing so, we lose the joy it could bring to our lives. On Wednesday, September 7th, the Sun in Virgo makes a trine to the North Node in Taurus. Here, we will begin to see Venus's new aesthetic come through as a surge of focus on personal pursuits. We talked about organizing our intentions in the recent Virgo New Moon post. Wherever we are in that process, now is the time to identify our key objectives and the resources available to meet those objectives. Make a list and prioritize to avoid overwhelm.

Friday, September 9th, Mercury turns retrograde in the sign of Libra opposite Jupiter in Aries. This station will trine Mars in Gemini bringing up choices, and questions around diplomacy and counterbalancing actions. How do we bring balance when we are overwhelmed? This is when the mutual reception between Mercury and Venus will come into play. Mercury is in Libra, a Venus ruled sign, and Venus is in Virgo, a Mercury ruled sign. Even though the planets cannot see each other, their mutual reception opens up the keys to the supply closet for the other planet in their home sign. So Mercury will be able to access the tools to be Venusian thinker and communicator and restore some balance to the Libra-Virgo-Gemini-Aries parts of our charts. Venus will be propped up by those Mercurial skills as she tries to strip down our commitments to only what is in our heart's best interest. We might be asked to dial back social commitments to spend a little more time focused on wellness and work. Mercury will retrograde back into Virgo on September 23rd.

Saturday, September 10th, there will be a Full Moon in Pisces. The quality of mind during a Pisces Moon is similar to the quality of mind one might have floating in the deep ocean -- there is no perception of an end to the water and no clear perception of where you begin or end. Thoughts can be expansive in this state of powerlessness. You can't get anywhere fast no matter how hard you swim. It can be surreal, liberating and terrifying all at once. I could see this Full Moon as an opportunity to give into something bigger than yourself -- maybe something that you've been resisting -- whether or not clearly see a finish line. It might also come up as a weekend to dive into relaxation and not try to paddle anywhere. Take the opportunities that this Full Moon offers to zoom out, expand your consciousness, and connect with your feelings before getting back into the Virgo minutia.

This would be a really good weekend to schedule some meditation. Sunbathe in the light of the Full Moon. Paint. Write a poem. Listen to music. Record your dreams. You get the idea, right?

The Sun will make a trine to Uranus in Taurus on Sunday, September 11th bringing an activation of personal goals. Expect an aha! moment, a bit of an awakening, a new understanding of your resources or values. This transit so close to the Full Moon should be a re-energizing shift out of the deep waters and back onto dry land for the Virgo work mode.
